overcoming addiction.

Born To Be Free, Cornerstone TeleVision's innovative and inspirational series on overcoming addictions, is a 30-minute per week program featuring testimonies, historical scenarios, and practical help for those seeking freedom from all types of addictive behavior.

We live in a culture of addiction. We all know someone who is addicted in some way. Others may be dealing with a lifecontrolling issue that keeps them from being the person God intended them to be. Whether it's a hard-core addiction like drugs or pornography or simply a personality flaw like arrogance or stubbornness - these addictions come at a great cost - not only to those with the problem but also to the ones they love.

Over thirteen weeks we will present solid, foundational principles that can help those struggling to overcome ANY addiction. We'll discuss these principles with our panel of recovering addicts from several different walks of life. We'll also bring you many incredible stories of people who have discovered the secret to overcoming their life-controlling issues. Whether struggling with drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, pornography, gambling, shopping, over-eating, dieting, arrogance, selfishness, low self-esteem, or some other compulsion - they all found hope in the midst of their pain.

While this series alone isn't the answer to overcoming addictions, it can bring awareness to the issues controlling your life and point you in the right direction to find help. Throughout every episode, we'll provide information that will connect you to a nearby organization where you can continue your road to recovery and build relationships with people who care for you and can bring you hope.

LaVerne & Edith Tripp

As an award-winning gospel singer and songwriter, he had all the world could offer. LaVerne Tripp held the distinction of being the only person to write and record three number one songs to consecutively reach the top of the national gospel music charts. His many fans could only see the glamour and excitement of his standing room only concert appearances. The world had offered LaVerne everything he had ever dreamed of. Yet, behind the scenes, the king of gospel music was addicted to drugs and alcohol.

But God had a better plan for LaVerne's life.

Over the past 29 years of ministry, LaVerne has seen more than 500,000 souls born into the Kingdom of God, traveled around the world, built Bible schools, churches, children's homes, and now is the sole sponsor of 300 children adopted in India.

Now LaVerne joins us to host a brand-new series called Born To Be Free: an innovative and inspirational series on overcoming addictions. This series will feature testimonies and practical help for those seeking freedom from all types of addictive behavior.

LaVerne now knows the truth: God turned his life around and is using him to help others with the same or similar addictions by showing them that they were Born To Be Free!

Chuck Hamby
Rev Chuck Hamby

Chuck Hamby has been in ministry since 1961. He graduated from Central Bible College, Springfield, MO and later attended Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, Mill Valley, California. He has pastored churches in Alabama, Arkansas, Iowa, and Ohio. He has worked with Ron Hembree as associate pastor and as staff member on Good Friends, Inc.

Chuck was introduced to alcohol and drug rehab while pastoring in Ottumwa, IA. As president of two ministerial associations, he was instrumental in getting both groups to assist the local hospital to become a regional health center. The hospital needed to have a substance abuse treatment center to make the change. The ministers were recruited to be "Fifth Step Listeners." The fifth step of AA is "Admitted to ourselves, to God, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs."

Later in a church in Rockford, IL, Chuck became director of New Wine Fellowship. He instituted the 12-step program there and did a booklet for the meetings. That booklet has been revised to become part of the Born To Be Free series and is now called Born To Be Free: Your Journey to Freedom. While at Rockford, Chuck furthered his training by participating in the New York State Core Curriculum in Syracuse, NY.

Chuck is currently working with us on the Born To Be Free series. He lives in Trafford, PA.
